FAQ

We get many questions about our program and Jungian-Christian Dialogue in general. We have done our best to answer the most common ones here. If you have any further questions, please reach out to us.

  • What Is Jungian Spiritual Direction?
Jungian Spiritual direction is a practice where both director and directee attune to God’s call through the in-depth work of supporting the directee’s unique process of individuation. Both director and directee are changed by this process. We believe that attending to the process of each person's growth toward wholeness is an exemplary means of entering more fully into relationship with the Divine.
  • Who Is the Jungian Spiritual Direction Program Designed For?
The program is for trained Spiritual Directors with an active spiritual direction practice who wish to expand their skillfulness and spiritual worldview.
  • What Are the Components of the Jungian Spiritual Direction Program?
The training consists of both academic and experiential content including personal reflection and small group mentoring which will be guided by each individual's own directed process. Week-long residentials, monthly on-line meetings, personal reflection, and engagement in group process are all essential aspects of the living-learning curriculum.
  • Why Should I Apply?
Spiritual Directors formed in Catholic or Christian traditions will benefit from exposure to Jungian framework as it will support their own spiritual growth as well as their ministry with directees from a broad range of spiritual and religious identities. Of course, people from any religious background will benefit and are welcome to apply with the understanding that the program is rooted in the Christian director’s perspective.
  • What Commitments Are Expected From Participants?
Participants should expect to commit to a 2-year training curriculum, participation in person during two (2) weeklong retreat intensives each year, and monthly/bimonthly virtual learning sessions with small group process for the duration of the program. Participants should expect to complete regular assigned reading and writing assignments to maximize the academic and experiential transformational process.
  • How Long Is the Program?
It is a two-year training program.
  • Who Are the Faculty?
Don Bisson, Liz Walz, Thomas Steffensen, Tim Rodier (learn more about Our Team here)
  • Will I Get a Certificate or CEUs?
Yes, participants will receive a certificate of completion for the training program. We are pursuing being approved to offer CEU credits.
  • Is Carl Jung Inherently Antithetical to Catholicism?
No. The critique that Jung is anti-Catholic or anti-Christian is a misreading and a misleading reduction of Jung’s profound and revolutionary work.
